Consistency of Teacher Judgement, Improving Literacy Outcomes, Visiting Authors, Furthur Support in Literacy

Consistency of Teacher Judgement: continuing in 2003
This Initiative has been designed to provide primary schools with a set of principles and strategies that help teachers  make  consistent judgements of achievement of stage outcomes by students. Currently, Broken Hill Public School  and Cobar Public School are implementing strategies that support professional dialogue and team planning around developing common understandings of outcomes and assessments. Future plans include inviting Chris Brooker of William Dean Public School  to Broken Hill in Term 2 to share her school's journey.
High schools have  received a support document: Consistency in assessment and reporting - a secondary context and were able to attend a workshop on consistency in the high school context late 2002.

Improving Literacy Outcomes in 2003
Sunraysia schools that are continuing to  participate in the  CAP Initiative that supports Student Learning Outcomes in literacy are:
Buronga PS, Dareton PS,  Gol Gol PS,  Menindee CS,  and Wentworth P.
The Initiative draws on methodology from Brian Grey's  Scaffolding for Literacy Project, and, in 2003 participating teachers will continue to attend Network Meetings and Workshop Days as well as produce more scripts for quality narratives. Observers are welcome to visit some classrooms.  (Please contact Jim Wilton at Wentworth or Geoff Broadfoot   at Dareton).
An Awareness Raising Session  workshop was recently held in Broken Hill for STLD  and Early Stage 1 teachers.

Visiting Authors
In Term 2 we are planning to bring four authors to the Broken Hill District  (John Larkin, Moya Simons, Stephen Measley and Jane Caroll) to workshop with both students and teachers.
